AP ranks LSU #1: Who cares?

The AP doesn’t determine the national champion. The BCS determines the national champion.

While it is likely that when the results come out later today that LSU will be #1 in the BCS, why should we care what the AP says about who is #1?

The AP crowns it own national champion. That is why USC and LSU split the championship a few years back, because USC won the AP championship and LSU won the BCS champions. Both say they were champions that year.

Oh, you mean the AP “championship” that USC falsely used to claim that they had a “share” of the national championship (even though USC is part of the BCS)?

You mean the AP poll that “withdrew” itself from the BCS because it didn’t like the fact that its “champion” wasn’t the BCS champion?

I’m sorry, but if a school signs to be a part of the BCS and doesn’t win the BCS national championship it is not the national champion.

And as we speak, of course LSU is #1 in the BCS as well.

Is the BCS flawed? Yes. It is far too subjective. But then again, so is the AP. A playoff system is needed. But if I sign up to be part of the BCS system and I don’t win the championship as defined of the system, I think it is rather silly to claim that I am still a champion because the AP thinks I was really the “best team”.
