Despite the best efforts of the Democratic Party to hand control of our state over to the Republican party, and despite the best efforts of the LCRM and the Republican Party to fund a Tom Delay ARMPAC style takeover of Louisiana, Democratic candidates managed to keep a slim margin in the Louisiana Legislature over the weekend.
This was absolutely vital for the Democratic party since Louisiana is likely to lose a seat in Congress after the next census. This legislature will most likely have to redistrict the state and with a majority, Democrats are unlikely to be the party to lose a seat. The fact that they have such a slim majority means that they probably would be unable to gain an additional seat. However, not losing a seat is good enough for me.
Now we just need Democrats to actually support Democrats for the position of House Speaker. Any Democrat who does otherwise should be targeted for defeat in the next election.
