WSJ on PBJ
Oyster has some must read comments about their recent articleon our Governor. Oyster focused on some of the aspects of the article. However, I felt the (WSJ) article was lacking in several very important points.
Less than a month after taking office Mr. Jindal called a special legislative session to push an ambitious package of reforms aimed at transforming the state’s image as an ethical cesspool. Though he encountered some minor resistance, Mr. Jindal managed to pass most of what he wanted
What the author fails to point out is that the ethics reforms that Bobby Jindal pushed for are soft, leave open many of the existing loopholes for unethical people to continue their unethical behavior, and that many have commented on the lack of enforcement capability that Louisiana will have to make sure that these laws are actually enforced.
The generally liberal editorial board at the Times Picayune called the Republican governor’s early work a “momentous step” toward improving the state’s battered image
Say what? Liberal? What crack is he smoking? The Times Picayune endorsed “W” in 2000 and they endorsed Bobby Jindal in every election he has run for. A liberal newspaper would not consistently fawn over the ultra-conservative Bobby Jindal. A liberal newspaper would not regurgitate campaign press releases as news articles on the Jindal campaign.
The Center for Public Integrity, a nonpartisan organization in Washington, stated that the ethics reforms would likely vault Louisiana from the bottom to near the top of rankings on government ethics.
So what this tells us is that the Center for Public Integrity’s criteria for ranking states is by the laws that they pass and not the actual action of enforcing those laws. Seems to me that any state would have to prove that it is willing to abide by the rules they create and not just create a nice window dressing for all to see but none to see what is behind it.
But that is basically the point of the Jindal administration. He sought to fix the appearance of ethical violations and not to actually solve the problem of ethical violations in our state. I am just appalled at how the media can just sit here and actually take themselves seriously when they repeat the same garbage over and over again.
At least the author did not parrot the whole “Bobby Jindal saved Louisiana’s healthcare system” garbage. Maybe there just wasn’t enough time.
But at the end of the day, the author is just another in the line of journalists who have gulped down the Jindal kool aid. Oyster sees a clear headed author. I guess I have to disagree with Oyster on that point.

At the end of the day, you (Dan Zimmerman) would never say anything good about Governor Jindal, even if he found a cure for lukemia. I am sure you would complain that he did not find a cure for ALL types of cancer and if he was really any good he would have cured AIDS first.
Your sour and SPITEFUL attitude goes well past playng “devil’s advocate” and your opinions go well past prejudice.
Unlike you, I have always made my position clear as a loyal supporter of Governor Jindal, and even more unlike you, I have been able to use REALITY and FACTS to back my position.
Get a life, Dan. Better yet, go see a shrink.
Oh, by the way I put up a new article that should really yank your panties, lol.

“not to actually solve the problem of ethical violations in our state”
Not that your suspicions are wrong, but given we are only a couple of months into his administration I think the jury is out on that one.

Celcus: I have actually sourced where Jindal and his Administration has said that the pupose was to fix the perception problem. I have links here and on Jindalisbad.com
4up: Welcome back
“At the end of the day, you (Dan Zimmerman) would never say anything good about Governor Jindal, even if he found a cure for lukemia. I am sure you would complain that he did not find a cure for ALL types of cancer and if he was really any good he would have cured AIDS first.”
Another lie. I will give credit when credit is due. For example, when Bobby Jindal passed legislation in his first term in Congress to make sure funds to help people from Hurricane Ivan was tax free, I praised him for that. I also agree with Oyster that Bobby Jindal spending surplus money on infrastructure (including coastal restoration and hurricane protection) and to pay down pension obligations are good things. I also support the elimination of certain taxes on businesses (like the moronic tax on debt, what was that about?)
“Your sour and SPITEFUL attitude goes well past playng “devil’s advocate” and your opinions go well past prejudice.”
I am not playing devils advocate. I disagree with many of the things that Bobby Jindal does in government. I find him to be a liar, a fraud, a hypocrite and a typical politician. (Ok, so the last one was redundant).
“Unlike you, I have always made my position clear as a loyal supporter of Governor Jindal, and even more unlike you, I have been able to use REALITY and FACTS to back my position.”
My position on Jindal has always been clear as well. And I have always backed up my claims with reality and facts. I think your “loyalty” blinds you to the truth.
“Get a life, Dan. Better yet, go see a shrink.”
I have a great life. And since I am not the one who has blind faith in a hypocrite governor, I don’t believe im the one who needs help.
“Oh, by the way I put up a new article that should really yank your panties, lol.”
Why would that yank any undergarment I have on? You have access to the Governor because you are an avid and public supporter of him. No big surprise here! (And by the way, its boxers, not that you really wanted to know).
From your article: “I now believe, short of a catastrophic event, Governor Bobby Jindal WILL NOT be accepting any offers to be Senator John McCain’s running mate. This is, of course, just my own opinion.”
I would ask, how did you reach that opinion? Did Bobby Jindal say “No, I wont accept any offer to be Senator John McCain’s running mate”? Republican and Conservative radio host Jeff Crouere plainly disagrees with you on this issue. Just sayin….
