Steve Scalise lied today

Steve Scalise was on WWL TV this morning. He started talking about Offshore Oil Revenue and stated that Bobby Jindal got us our fair share.

It is a shame that Scalise doesn’t know the truth. Mary Landrieu is the one who got us a fairer share of our oil revenue. Bobby Jindal’s bill did not get signed by the President. It died in committee. Landrieu’s bill passed the Senate, the conference committee, passed the House, and was signed by the President.

It is a shame that WWL TV can’t take the time to do their own research so they could have called him on his lie.

He also claimed that he would be ready to start working on day one. Start working on what? Does he really think he will be able to actually work with Washington Democrats? Is Steve Scalise really THAT naive to assume that just because some Democrats in the Louisiana Legislature are more conservative than others that he will find that same sort of attitude in D.C.? Or does he just hope that the voters are that naive? Either way, LA01 will be better served by having a strong Democrat working for them in D.C.. The Democrats in Congress will BEND OVER BACKWARDS to make sure Gilda gets what she needs to go back to the voters of LA01 and show that she is an effective representative.

Geaux Gilda!

I’d been writing about that very fact when it was happening. Why didn’t Bobby Jindal promote the bill with a greater chance of passage? Why did he promote a bill which had no realistic chance of being passed, or doing what he said he intended it to do? It’s just like his ethics bill. Sounds good on paper, but no practical application. Thank goodness for Mary!

I think that Bobby Jindal’s inexperience as a legislator, in addition to his ego that he has all the right answers, would be the reason why he would promote a bill that had absolutely no chance of passage.

What is even worse is that at the time, he continued to press for his bill (touting on his campaign site that his bill still had “a chance”) to the detrement of our getting any offshore oil revenue at all. It was obvious that his bill was not going to pass the Senate. However, he could not afford to have his bill go down in defeat until after he won the 2006 election. So he continued to push his failed bill, taking the risk that no offshore oil revenue bill would pass, until he was assured that his path to Governor was not shot down by an embarassing loss in the House.

Of course, the Jindal spin machine continued to work away. This is why voters and many in the media will continue to parrot the absolute lie that Bobby Jindal got us a fairer share of our offshore oil revenue when in reallity he nearly cost us that share. It is why the WWL tv personalities did not question Scalise when he stated that falsehood.

It seems that many in the media have thrown away the pesky “duty to inform” that they once held dear and instead have clung to the idea that if they dont lick the boots of the people in power, that they will no longer have anything of note to inform the people of because they will be left out of the loop.

It is sad that we have went from “good night, and good luck” to “what press release should we publish as news today Mr. Governor”.
