My letter to the T-P editor

During the 2007 campaign for Governor many of us warned the citizens of Louisiana about the kind of Governor that Bobby Jindal would turn out to be. We accurately predicted, via our own research, that any “ethics reform” would not be meaningful and that he would just bring more of the same type of government. His campaign (and his supporters) called us part of the “corrupt crowd” for daring to oppose the so called “reform candidate”. However, we did not oppose reform; we just rejected the idea that Jindal was sincere. The media could have also done that very same research. Instead, the media repeated Jindal campaign propaganda as “news” and never seriously questioned any of Jindal’s claims. The media owes all of us an apology for their blind endorsement of Jindal and for their lack of investigative reporting.

Strong, concise and on point. I totally agree with it and would love to see it published.

But I’m not holding my breath.

    Thanks!

In order to give it a better chance of getting printed, I just put media instead of blaming T-P directly. Though it is true, it was the entire media that failed to do its job.

And I did get a letter to the editor printed way back in 2000 that contradicted the T-P endorsement of Bush. So you never know.

Love your stuff Daniel, and agree wholeheartedly. But isn’t your hope a bit like expecting an apology from Russert or Matthews for beating the drum for Bush’s Iraq War . . .

Just because I say we are owed an apology from the media doesn’t mean that I am hoping for or expecting an apology to take place.

If they lacked the journalistic integrity to uphold their responsibility to inform the public, I have no reason to believe that they would have the integrity to admit their mistakes as well.

    Wow! Look at this!

  6. oyster Says:

    Well, will wonders never cease?

    Congrats.
