ACLU v. Tangipahoa: part 12,252,008
Last year the ACLU threatened to sue if the City of Ponchatoula put up a cross in its holiday decorations. It seems like, perhaps, the Government types in Tangipahoa Parish may be starting to get it:
Mayor Bob Zabbia said city officials don’t agree with the ACLU but realized that they probably would not win, and lawsuits are costly.
And, said Zabbia, “The law is the law. It doesn’t make sense to fight something you’re not going to win.”
Private businesses have, in response, decided to start raising crosses on their property. The ACLU has stated that not only are they not opposed to that, but they would stand up for the rights of private business owners to display whatever religious symbols they wished to display.
The idea really isn’t that difficult. Do not use government to promote your personal beliefs. Promote your religious beliefs on your personal time. Seems reasonable to me. Unfortunately, some people still don’t get it.
