Jindal rejects additional unemployment stimulus funds.

Say what?

Jindal, while accepting stimulus funds for roads and an additional $25 a week increase in unemployment compensation, has rejected almost $100 million in stimulus funding meant to additionally expand unemployment compensation. You know, because the job market is wonderful and there is a surplus of jobs in this marvelous economy we have.

Jindal claims that accepting $96 million would cost us $12 million. Did you get that? In order to get $96 million we have to spend $12 million. We would get $108 million in unemployment benefits for $12 million, and Jindal finds this to be a bad idea. Why not ask the oil companies, who have raked in record profits during this current recession, to foot some of that bill. There is a start.

Better yet, instead of campaigning and fundraising for his own personal gain across the country, why doesn’t Jindal go to these other states to try and attract more businesses here. If he was able to bring in jobs to our state, instead of bringing in campaign contributions to his coffers, we wouldn’t need additional unemployment compensation because the people of Louisiana would have jobs. I know this is asking a lot of Jindal (who has never stayed in a government job for more than 3 years).

UPDATE: Included in the funds that Jindal has rejected is funding that would extend the amount of time that someone could collect unemployment. So if someone is currently unemployed and their time runs out in the awful economy, Jindal is telling you “too bad”.

And I still havn’t seen an actual explanation from Bobby Jindal on why exactly accepting those funds would cost the state money. Perhaps someone in the media would be so bold as to ask for an explanation.
