A trip back to 2004

To those who do not know I ran for Congress in Louisiana’s First Congressional District back in 2004. One of my opponents was Bobby Jindal.

In that campaign I was the only candidate to make coastal restoration and hurricane protection his top priority. Included in my platform was the desire to focus on methods that would work to prevent saltwater intrusion into our wetlands.

It seems to me that if we had a method to prevent saltwater from intruding into our wetlands that other substances (like oil) would also be prevented from intruding into our wetlands.

Perhaps the voters need to consider this when deciding who to support in elections instead of just supporting the popular or the establishment candidate.

Just sayin…

Fertilizer and nitrates should be measured as it runs down the Mississippi River to see which states are contributing the most . these states should be charged for the the Dead Zone they are creating. If we filter this out by funneling the river back through our wetlands we should be reimbursed for it.

Mark Twain said the Mississippi was too thick to drink and too thin to plow. By sending that water back through our dying wetlands we can save the wetlands from erosion and filter out these petroleum based fertilizers that are being dumped on us. Wetlands are the best filter for this kind of waste beating out man made treatment plants for things as toxic as sewage.

When the great lake in Chicago became too polluted to provide drinking water the engineers there reversed the flow of the river. Now all their pollution is sent to us too.

    Lets stopped getting dumped on!
