Republicans take all or nothing approach

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

In showing how the Republican party does not quite understand the real world, not only did the Republicans affirm their quest to obtain a constitutional ban on abortion, they also removed the reductions of abortions from their party platform.

So let me get this straight. The party who claims to be pro-life and wants to protect embryos is only caring about criminalizing abortion and not worrying about reducing their numbers? How is that for not being genuine?

Republicans also affirmed their hatred of homosexuals by continuing their support to ban gay marriages. I am sure that marriage defenders David “who would Vitter do” Vitter and Larry “toe tapping” Craig will be leading the battle charge on this one. I’m shocked they are not calling for both a return to Jim Crow laws and a constitutional amendment to keep women in the kitchen and out of the voting booth. Could the Republican Party be any more archaic?

Palfrey guilty

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

So Vitter’s “serious sins” happened to pertain to a business that was ruled to be a prostitution ring.

Just sayin…

WWVD

David Vitter spared from the witness stand.

Monday, April 14th, 2008

David “WWVD” Vitter has been spared from testifying in the Palfrey trial.

Sen. David Vitter will not have to testify about his ties to an upscale

Washington escort service, a defense attorney said Monday, sparing the Louisiana Republican an embarrassing trip to the witness stand.

So yeah, he has been “spared” the “embarrassing trip”. Of course he is not spared the embarrassing media attention that he will get with this and every other sex scandal that arises between now and his 2010 campaign. And if everyone buys a t-shirt or bumper sticker, we can make sure that nobody forgets his “serious sins”.

Vitter endorses Scalise.

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

According to an article on Bayou Buzz, David Vitter (among other Republicans) are supporting Steve Scalise for Congress. Will Steve Scalise reject the endorsement of David “serious sins” Vitter? Or will Scalise continue to be a hypocrite by campaigning on ”our shared family values“ while openly accepting campaign support from adulterers?

The Louisiana Family Forum named Steve Scalise “Outstanding Family Advocate.”

I guess their standards are rather low.

Louisiana needs Gilda Reed for Congress. Read more about Gilda here.

Who Would Vitter Do Campaign

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I was on the radio this morning on KVOL 1330. I wanted to go ahead and direct any listeners who might check out the blog to several of the points that we discussed on the air. First and foremost would be the David Vitter scandal and his hypocrisy. Here is a link showing that Vitter called for Clintons resignation for his affair.

There is also this quote of Vitter’s from the time that clearly show his hypocrisy:

Some current polls may suggest that people are turned off by the whole Clinton mess and don’t care — because the stock market is good, the Clinton spin machine is even better or other reasons. But that doesn’t answer the question of whether President Clinton should be impeached and removed from office because he is morally unfit to govern. The writings of the Founding Fathers are very instructive on this issue. They are not cast in terms of political effectiveness at all but in terms of right and wrong — moral fitness. Hamilton writes in the Federalists Papers (No. 65) that impeachable offenses are those that “proceed from the misconduct of public men, or, in other words, from the abuse or violation of some public trust

So how is Vitter not morally unfit to be a Senator (by his own logic)? And of course, here is the link to the lj4a store where you can purchase some WWVD bumper stickers and t-shirts.

We also discussed some of Bobby Jindal’s hypocrisy as well. From Jindal’s kid attending the LSU lab school, to Timmy Teepell’s brother in law becoming executive director of the Louisiana Republican Party, to ticketgate (and the link to the WAFB story),  Jindal’s inflating of the budget he claims was already inflated and finally Jindal’s paying back his campaign contributors with government grants.

It was a really fun experience and I definitely look forward to doing it again.

Hypocrisy in Kenner

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Having run for office in Kenner, I know how some of the activists there will just focus on one issue and refuse to look at anything else. This is true in politics nationwide. However, some people in Kenner have turned their ferocity into an “art-form”.

Several activists have come together to demand the resignationof one Kenner Councilwoman because of one picture showing a “suggestive pose”. One of them, Arthur Tudela, was on Jeff Crouere’s show this morning explaining his case for her resignation. I had to call in and call him out on his hypocrisy. See, I asked him if he has called for David Vitter’s resignation as well. He said no, that the circumstances are apples and oranges, and that even though she wasn’t acting in an official capacity that she would have never met the guy in the picture had she not been a Kenner elected official.

My response was that yes, the issues are apples and oranges. David Vitter admitting to violating the law and to cheating on his wife. The Kenner Councilwoman did not do either of those things. And David Vitter would have never met the D.C. Madam had he not been elected to Congress. So the argument by Mr. Tudela is clearly flawed. The failure of him and others on their witch-hunt to demand Vitter’s resignation hurts their credibility on this issue.

And of course, the obligatory WWVD.

Spitzer swallows Vitter’s attempt to be relevant.

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Less than a week after David Vitter tried to step into the public spotlight on an issue other than  prostitution, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been outed as client number 9 of Emperor’s Club VIP prostitution ring. Many blogs and articles have discussed this issue and I wont rehash many of the comments already made.  I do have a couple thoughts on this though.

A) Spitzer does have one ace in the hole. All the Republicans who are calling for his resignation who didn’t call for Vitter’s resignation (i.e. Jindal) have absolutely no leg to stand on. He can deflect this argument to Republican Hypocrisy if he wants to try and survive. I’m not saying he will be successful in defending himself and it is possible that he will have to resign. However, he can go down swinging.

B) Vitter will not be able to do much with his caucus if his power rankings drop whenever someone else is busted on having an affair.

And of course, the obligatory….  Who Would Vitter Do?

Vitter has a new caucus

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

In what probably is an attempt to distract people from hookergate, David V has created a new caucus of him and 8 other Senators to fight for increased border security and tougher measures on those who violate our immigration laws. I guess the enforcement of immigration laws is much more important than the enforcement of the laws covering prostitution. It must be nice to be able to pick and choose the laws one wants to follow.

Perhaps David Vitter should take care of matters relating to his own caucus before erecting another.

Of course, whenever “Vitty-cent” comes up in discussion, I still have to ask…. Who Would Vitter Do?

More David Vitter stories

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

It’s so nice that during the holiday season that we can all gather around the fireplace and listen to tales of hookers and Senators. Such wonderful family tales from our “family values” Senator, David Vitter. (Thanks to Oyster for his continued coverage of this story)

And if you havn’t spent all your money this holiday season, consider getting your friends and loved ones a “WWVD: Who Would Vitter Do” bumper sticker and t-shirt. All the cool kids are wearing them!

Bush Loses, Louisiana Wins!

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

It is been 10 years since Congress has disagreed with a President so strongly they managed to override a veto. Well, today the Senate joined the House and said “SHOW ME THE MONEY!”.

This money contained funds that Louisiana needs to rebuild and to strengthen itself for the future. Does it contain spending that is probably unnecessary? Probably. But there are many more projects that are justified and needed and it is a political reallity that you sometimes have to scratch the back of a Congressman from one district in order to get your back scratched as well. Would it be nice if Congress would be able to just say “let’s vote on issues individually and decide them on their own merit”? Sure! However, since we live in the real world we have to deal with the political realities of our world.

Perhaps now the prospects of Louisiana will actually be brighter. Our congressional representation served us well today.
