A Whopper of a controversy

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Recent Burger King commercials have film crews going to random places in the world where people have never had fast food before and have them choose between the Whopper and the Big Mac to see which burger tastes better. Now, besides the fact that I think they should have used the Quarter Pounder with Cheese if they wanted to be fair… I think that these commercials are brilliant! How else could you have a true taste test. There is no chance of bias here, since they will have no preconceived notions of what a burger should taste like.

However, other people are not so thrilled about Burger King and the “Whopper Virgins” ad campaign.

“It’s outrageous,” said Sharon Akabas of the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia University. “What’s next? Are we going to start taking guns out to some of these remote places and ask them which one they like better?”

Are they seriously comparing guns and burgers? Really?

“It’s insulting,” she said, adding that the money used to make the documentary would have been better spent trying to end hunger - not create it.

How exactly are they creating a hunger? I think some people are just far too sensitive. This is a very smart ad campaign and when someone shows a bit of creativity, they are chastised for it. Perhaps we should be encouraging more creative thought and then we could find creative ways to do other things (like ending world hunger). Just sayin…..

The only think I am interested in seeing is Burger King go back to those villages in 2 years and see how fat they get if they are able to find access to fast food joints.

When Phil Rizzuto died, people said “I guess God needed a shortstop“.

When Gary Gygax died, people said “I guess God needed a dungeon master“.

When Mitch Hedberg died, people said “I guess God needed a good laugh“.

So, now that Al Copeland has died, I guess God needed some fried chicken, a huge Christmas display, and a feud with Anne Rice.
