Question about Charles Grant

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Can anyone tell me why, instead of placing him on Injured Reserve for the entirety of this season, they didn’t let him serve his 4 week suspension first and then put him on I.R. afterwards?

Seriously, I do not know if there would be a rule against this.

Saints fighting suspensions, but what is best for the team?

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

We all know that Deuce, Will Smith, and Charles Grant are fighting suspensions for taking a diuretic as part of a supplement. Now, according to the article Deuce had been taking a supplement for the last four years. He submitted this supplement to the NFL for testing. And from the claims that have been made, the company allegedly added this substance to the supplements (even though it is not a listed agreement). Furthermore, when the company was notified of the problem, they supposedly did nothing about it. So if this is the case, and that there was no way for these players to have known that the formula changed, then they should not be suspended.

However, the NFL has a zero tolerance policy on supplements. While I have little tolerance for zero tolerance policies, you have to understand that these are the rules of the game. So we must consider the effect that this will have on the team. Can the Saints afford to be without Deuce, Smith, and Grant at the same time? I don’t think so.

The team needs to sit down with those players and work out a schedule of suspensions that least impacts the team. So what I would do is have Will Smith take his suspension for the next four weeks. I would then have Charles Grant take his suspension for the last four weeks. Finally, I would have Deuce wait to take his suspension until Reggie Bush is healthy. This way, you minimize the effect on the Saints overall. Otherwise, you could wind up missing 3 star players at once.

Geaux Saints!

Monday, September 29th, 2008

What a game that was yesterday! With all the injuries we had, people stepped up when they had to. Two end-zone interceptions… I mean come on… that is just incredible!

And it looks like the 1-2 punch of Deuce/Reggie that took us to the playoffs is back! (By the way, this game just goes to prove exactly what I said last week… Deuce can move a pile and should ALWAYS be counted on to get us a first down or score a goal line touchdown… both of which he did yesterday). And to all the Reggie Bush haters, I believe a Reggie Bush block in the backfield allowed an amazing pass to Meachem. And when you have the threat of Reggie or Deuce in there, it opens up the field for people like Lance Moore to have an amazing game. (Or as Bobby Hebert says… Lans Mooer).

And amazingly enough, they did it in black pants!

A tale of two tickets…

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I have tickets to the Rush Concert.

I have tickets to the 1st Hornets Playoff Game.

*sigh*

Why couldn’t they have scheduled the 1st playoff game for Sunday?

Update: They swapped the Houston Rush date with the New Orleans one. So i get to see both this weekend. Yay! This has been a very good week. I’ll share more on that later :)

Update 2: According to the Rush press release, they will be donating $100,000 to rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. That is really cool of them.

Update 3: The game and the concert… all I can say is WOW what a weekend.

There is no split college football national championship! Get over it!

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Rivals.com has an article discussing USC and how they may have earned themselves a “split” of the national championship.

The best-laid plans of the Bowl Championship Series and decorum be damned, the Trojans screamed. Showtime was back in L.A., and any talk about the national championship shouldn’t be centered solely on Ohio State and LSU.

Say what? USC is part of the BCS. USC, by participating in the BCS has agreed that they would participate in the BCS selection process and accept the national champion that is created by the ranking system and the winner between the matchup of the #1 and #2 teams at the end of the season. Those teams are Ohio State and LSU. USC did not earn its way to the #1 or #2 position so it does not have any way to claim any right to any share of the national championship. There is one champion and all the talk about who is the national championship should absolutely center on Ohio State and LSU.

Yes, as discussed before in a previous post, the AP sometimes likes to name its own so called “national champion” and believe that the title somehow means something. To me, accepting the AP championship is accepting the “sore loser award”. It would be like the AP giving an award to the New York Yankees and calling it the “AP National Championship of Baseball of 2007″.

In my opinion, College Football needs a playoff. The NCAA does it for Baseball and it does it for Basketball. Why not football? Because it would make too much sense? Allow everyone who wins their division to get into the playoffs, allow for a couple wildcard teams, rank the teams based on their BCS rankings, and go from there. You could allow 12 or 16 teams in and then nobody would ever get to complain that an undefeated team did not make it, or that some team was not given their due, or some other lame excuse.

Although, if the NCAA did  implement a  playoff system, I bet the AP would still crown its own little “national champion” anyway. If they do ever implement a playoff  system, one criteria for inclusion should be that you never accept a bogus AP “title”.

Curt Schilling needs a lesson in logic and civics

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Curt Schilling stated that Roger Clemens needs to give up his Cy Young awards if he cannot refute the accusations made against him in the Mitchell report. I wonder if too much blood seeped out into the bloody sock. Perhaps he didn’t worry about learning logical reasoning or civics lessons while preparing for his career in Baseball.

It is illogical to demand someone prove a negative. How is Roger Clemens supposed to prove that he did not take steroids? This is one of the reason why our legal system includes a presumption of innocence. Curt should remember that before telling people to prove negatives.

Mare perfect and Bullocks was a bust in loss.

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Olindo Mare hit his extra point and kicked 2 perfect onside kick attempts… well perfect except for the fact that Josh Bullocks couldn’t hold onto the ball. I thought you earned your way onto the onside kick squad because you are good at catching the ball.

Not that the loss is the fault of Bullocks, he did have 5 tackles and a sack. Also, the Saints should have never put themselves in the situation of being 3 scores down.

The season is far from over and I truely believe that the Saints have far more talent than any other team in the NFC South. It is possible that the NFC South champ could finish at 9-7, so the bar is pretty low. Let’s just hope the Saints wake up and finish strong.

AP ranks LSU #1: Who cares?

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

The AP doesn’t determine the national champion. The BCS determines the national champion.

While it is likely that when the results come out later today that LSU will be #1 in the BCS, why should we care what the AP says about who is #1?
